Covaris OH&S Policy
Covaris seeks to work in close co-operation with all clients and their
staff to ensure that OHS is a key issue to be dealt with in the operation
of any contracted work.Covaris Pty Ltd respects and acknowledges its obligations
under occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation to protect the
ongoing health and safety of:
• Its staff;
• Any contractors acting on its behalf; as well as
• Staff working on sites where Covaris staff/contractors are operating.
As such, the following issues set out the respective OHS obligations of
both Covaris Pty Ltd and the client when performing work.
1. Covaris Pty Ltd Expectation/Requirement from Client
It is the responsibility of the Client and all of their staff responsible
for worksites upon which Covaris staff or contractors are required to
work to:
• Ensure the safety and health of Covaris employees and contractors
through the implementation and continuous review of OHS plans, processes
and systems;
• Ensure that work conducted by their staff and others under their
control are in compliance with relevant
legislation and the company’s safe work methods and demonstrate
an acceptable level of safety performance;
• Ensure that work is undertaken only by qualified persons, taking
into account the type of work to be performed, the licences, certificates
and qualifications required; and• Report any incident, injury, or
hazards that may impact on the health and safety of Covaris staff or contractors
as soon as possible.
Specifically, in relation to the quoted work, it is the expectation of
Covaris Pty Ltd that:
• Covaris staff and contractors receive an adequate induction before
being required to perform work on any site as well as ( if warranted ),
on any individual piece of plant/equipment
• That such inductions are subject to regular and ongoing reviews
and updates
• Provide all necessary items of specialist personal protective
equipment (PPE)
• Safe working practices are developed, reviewed and followed
2. Covaris Pty Ltd Expectation/Requirements from its Staff/Contractors
Covaris Pty Ltd is committed to the provision and maintenance of working
environments that are safe and without risks to health for all employees,
contractors and visitors.
Accordingly, it is the expectation of Covaris Pty Ltd that its staff/contractors
performing work on worksites controlled by the Client in accordance of
this quotation will:
• Comply with Covaris OH&S policy documented in Covaris Quality
Management System
• Correctly use all necessary items of personal protective equipment
(PPE) as provided by Covaris or the
contractor company
• Undertake all necessary induction processes – site and plant
specific
• Remain aware of local risks associated with the working environment
and take all steps to avoid risk of harm
to self or others
• Follow all necessary local safety rules and observe the directions
of qualified and/or authorised Client
personnel as to safety behaviour.
3. Dealing with Unresolved OHS Issues
Where a safety issue arises that cannot be resolved at the immediate time
and by the persons involved, the issue will be escalated to the most appropriate
level of management (Covaris and a client company if this is applicable)
for quick resolution. If any personnel of Covaris or the client company
consider that their safety may be compromised prior to the issue being
resolved, this may necessitate a halt or a modification in the work being
performed. At all times, the health and safety of staff and other personnel
will take precedence.
